Tequila of the Week #89 - El Gran Legado (Tequila Wanderer Single Barrel) Anejo

A first for El Gran Legado and for Myself. The very first Anejo released by Steve Vera and Gran Legado is this “The Tequila Wanderer” Single Barrel. It was an honor to have my first SB project be with Steve and Distilleria Cascahuin (NOM 1123)

This ‘The Tequila Wanderer ’ single Barrel Anejo was aged 16 months in American Oak Barrel previously used for Rabbit Hole Bourbon. The nose carries rich notes of Fruit, Chocolate and cooked agave. on the tongue the cooked agave profile is complimented by hints of pepper, berries, and light oak. I love the the characteristic viscosity that is associated with tequilas out of 1123 is still present, and the fatigued barrel used means that minerality of of the El Gran Legado blancos still finds its way through in this aged expression.

I tend to gravitate to blancos and so with this single barrel I have found an anejo that is still very easily identifiable as a tequila. Not over aged, not over influenced by the bourbon previously in the barrel. In total 171 bottles were produced from the barrel. All are sold through Sip Tequila as of Dec 31 2024.
